Who is God?

Ever since we humans first became a viable ‘thing’ here on earth,

we have searched beyond ourselves for a link to something greater.

Maybe we’ve been looking for the singular generative source of our existence.

Or, perhaps, for a super-intelligent entity sitting at the control panel of our lives.

Or, again, for a dependable, responsive source of love, security or need fulfillment.

We’ve called the object of our search by myriad names,

but quite often by the name ‘God.’

One factor in our search for God has consistently caught my attention;

maybe you’ve noticed it also:

Our search is mostly motivated by our human perspective—

our felt need for security, safety, love, protection, healing, empowerment, etc.

Consequently, our visions and versions of God are mostly anthropomorphized ones:

A “being” who loves and rewards us, while also admonishing and punishing us.

But who, or what, is this God that we’ve felt such a need to connect with?

There’s no simple or convincing answer to this complex question.

Allow me, though, to take a wild stab at it

from a purely quantum perspective.

Looking through a strictly quantum lens, we might say that

what we usually call God is, in its sheer essence, the Quantum Void:

pure emptiness, complete nothingness, absolute zero,

the absence of anything that we call creation or form.

This enigmatic Void is emphatically impersonal. It’s not a ‘being’ at all.

In fact, its very non-existence, its non-beingness, its lack of any form

(especially an anthropomorphic form) is its most mysterious quality.

In its complete nothingness lies its every power, possibility and wonder.

We can also think of it this way:

Only a formless, zero-dimensional, absolute nothingness can be

pure enough, simple enough and potential-filled enough

to boast the capacity to create something from nothing.

For helpful perspective, let’s take a brief look back in history.

The Hindu Upanishads referred to the source of creation as Atman:

a formless blend of non-being (nothingness) and supreme consciousness.

Separately, Lao Tzu boldly asserted that the world was created from nothing,

an invisible source he labeled as Tao:

the “formless” and “undefined” “Mother of all things.”

Get ready now for a truly soul searching question:

Imagine yourself abandoning your current view of God as loving you.

Or as protecting you. Or saving you. Or rewarding your presumed goodness.

What would your life be like without the feel-able comforts of such a God?

For most of us, such a shift would constitute a gigantic change of consciousness.

Let’s look at it from another angle. What would your life be like if,

in leaving behind your previous concepts of God,

you equally abandoned your mind’s need for any concept at all?

And then took a bold leap into the complete emptiness of

the untouchable quantum void—the Atman, Tao, mystery—

embracing it not just as the source of all creation

but also as your personally upgraded version of God?

Deep within you and me

—in fact, at the very core and center of every one of us—

lies that very quantum emptiness, that pure nothingness.

It’s the power behind our human throne,

silently creating and re-creating us every minute of every day.

Can you imagine yourself visiting it there in its invisibility,

embracing it in its mystery, becoming it in its nothingness?

The next question then becomes:

What if you increasingly viewed yourself, and indeed all of creation,

as the observable ‘product’ of this mysterious source?

And then: What if, eventually, your primary identity became this internal void:

You … now living as a quantum being … having a human experience?

QUANTUM SOURCE ... QUANTUM WORLD ... QUANTUM VOID ... QUANTUM YOU!
