Undressing God *

In a recent interview, I was asked:

“Is there a difference between God and the Quantum Source?”

A compelling question, isn’t it? What do you think?

Actually, in my view, there are two valid responses.

The first is that, in the bigger picture of what’s important,

such questions and distinctions simply don’t matter.

In this view, they mainly preoccupy and possibly clutter our minds

in ways that keep us from experiencing the bigger realities of creation.

A point well made! I’m sure that we all agree.

There’s a second response, though, one that I’d like to address here.

In this response, there is a significant difference

between God and the Quantum Void, at least conceptually.

I now invite you to a shared adventure in exploring this.

To help us grasp this difference, let’s start with our concept of …

God!

Most of us relate to ‘God’ through a special lens: our concepts.

We all have a concept of God. Beliefs and assumptions about God.

Ideas, myths, theories and convictions about God.

Internalized stories that we sub-consciously tell ourselves about God.

Because of these beliefs, both personal and collective,

without knowing it, we unconsciously dress the pure ‘essence’ of God

in the custom-designed clothes of our stories.

As a result, we relate to a God that we have anthropomorphized—

in ways that attempt to both satisfy our human needs

and fulfill our human ideals, values and desires.

For example, some persons (and/or theologies) might assert

God is loving, kind, forgiving, rewarding and compassionate—

all beautifully consoling and desirable qualities.

Certainly, this God would answer our prayers for divine intervention.

Others might express that God is all-powerful, justice-oriented,

demanding (e.g., of our obedience), and, when needed, punitive.

This God would probably require us to be morally good

in order to merit rewards (e.g., afterlife in heaven) and

avoid punishment (e.g., afterlife in, well, you know that ending).

What would happen if you and I simply “undressed God?”

That is, if we peeled off our concepts of God from its essence, layer by layer …

until the God earlier perceived by our mind was, well, naked?

Without these clothes? Undefinable, except in its actual essence?

For example, what if we unclothed God of our beliefs that God is:

- all-loving—like the parent we always wanted?

- all-caring, like the love partner we always wanted?

- all-forgiving, like the authority figure we always wanted?

- the creator and enforcer of our good-vs.-evil belief system?

- a morally-centered judge of our human behaviors?

- a devoted rescuer when we’re in hot water or feel needful?

What would be left after such a dismantling of our conceptual lens?

What would this undressed or naked God look like to you and me?

How would we feel about, or relate to, this God

now that we’ve deprived it of the consoling clothes of our desires,

now that it is dressed only in its sheer essence,

now that it ‘simply is’?

My sense is this:

This undressing would leave you and me one step closer

to a face-to-face encounter with the Quantum Source.

Hmm. As a final shot, how about if we now continue our project

and peel off two more layers of clothes:

the garments of space and time.

As we visualize God through this beyond-spacetime lens,

you and I begin to see a source that is completely unlimited.

At this point, most of us might think: “Nothing’s left!”

You’re right. We’ve now arrived at the very doorstep of

the Quantum Source.

While you’re digesting this, let’s look anew

at our now-fully undressed God through the lens of …

The Quantum Source!

As you’ve now surmised, the beyond-creation Quantum Source

hosts no anthropomorphized clothes at all.

It defines itself neither as rescuer, lover or morality-enforcer.

Likewise, it has no judgment at all about any of our human behaviors.

It cares not a twit about either rewarding or punishing us.

In short, it’s completely neutral in relation to everything about us.

(If you weren't aware of this distinction, you might want to

give yourself a moment to breathe and recover from the shock!).

It’s also unlike the undressed God who exits as pure “is-ness.”

Instead, we could say that our quantum source is pure ‘isn’t-ness,’

a formless non-essence, complete emptiness, absolute nothingness.

What does this distinction between God and Quantum Source

sound or feel like to you?

What’s it like to be

without your story of a consoling, loving quantum parent?

If you need, feel free to spend a few moments

digesting your deeper thoughts and feelings about it.

When you feel ready, let’s now turn our attention to …

The Quantum Story!

Let’s explore what creation looks like through a quantum lens—

this time, in a way that’s personal to you (well, sorta!).

For this purpose, picture yourself not as the ‘human you,’

but as the really big, beyond-creation ‘you’ that is ‘quantum,’

as the very, very empty ‘Nothing-ness you.’

Next, visualize this ‘quantum you’ dreaming your quantum nature

as a human self—the very human self who’s reading this.

Yes, the Quantum-Void-You is dreaming the human you!

Your human existence is the equivalent of a quantum dream,

a quantum fantasy, a quantum story.

And, in this human dream,

The ‘quantum you’ has surrounded the ‘human you’

with lots and lots of possibilities and experiences—

not just the good-feeling, healthy and happy ones.

Indeed, the quantum you has created a fantasy world

filled with “the best of times and the worst of times.”

You’ve given yourself both sides of the vast spectrum of possibilities—

both the inspiringly ‘beautiful’ and the supposedly ‘ugly.’

Whether you and I like it or not

(and most of us really, really, really, really don’t like it!),

we’re here to experience this dream’s ups and downs, highs and lows,

not just one side of the two-sided coin of human existence.

Thus—and here’s the part that most of us don’t like hearing!—

from a quantum perspective, our life here isn’t about

the supposed comfort of embracing what we value as good

and avoiding what we define as bad,

that is, of making our perceived good win over our perceived evil.

We may “hate the haters,” dislike the pain and try to avoid life’s ‘negatives,’

but, in our shared dream, they are an ingrained part of this weird fantasy

into which the quantum you has purposefully inserted itself as the human you.

Why are you and I here, then? Why would the ‘quantum you’

ever envision a world so filled with (what we might define as)

good and evil, positive and negative, peace and war, etc.?

Well, brace yourself, because I’m about to venture a response,

hopefully one that carries a slightly fuller picture of it all.

As I see it, the ‘quantum you’ is dreaming the ‘human you’

in order to give itself—as the human you— a three-step experience.

Step 1: The personal step. In order to embrace and experience human-ness

as a ‘human you’ and in a real-deal personal way:

  • To experience its primal and vibration-filled life force in every cell of your physical body,

  • To feel its sexual, emotional and creative forces—as well as its power and love—in your per-sonal energy field,

  • To know its unique, even puzzling styles of thinking, believing and behaving as you live in and interact with its world.

  • To experience duality: humanity’s 3-dimensional way of viewing everything in creation as being different, separate and two-sided.

Yes, you’re here to feel all of what is present and alive in this world

in your personal body, emotions and awareness.

The quantum set-up, of course, is that these possibilities invite you to know

and experience them as thoroughly, deeply and expansively as possible.

Step 2: The spiritual step. To awaken yourself to your expansive,

spiritual nature. Specifically:

  • To discover the bigger-dimensional, expansive possibilities available to you in this dream, living beyond the limitations of ‘regular’ human-ness.

  • To drink in, embrace and enjoy the wondrous gifts of your pure spirit: your love and light.

  • To expand your sense of identity: now becoming a spiritual person having a human exper-ience.

  • To experience humanity’s duality not as separate-ness and opposites, but as another version of oneness: your spirit’s inspired over-the-forest view.

As a ‘spiritual you,’ you touch and live in your divine nature.

You find and know the power of pure light in your body, energy and consciousness.

You find greater freedom and joy as love takes over your life.

You relate to “God” as your internal source and strength-filled ground.

You are guided by your soul’s truth and trusted support.

Step 3: The quantum step: To awaken you to your quantum nature.

Now that you've embraced your human and spiritual nature,

you're ready for and have arrived at a magical moment:

Your quantum nature is calling you back to itself:

  • To experience your human self—including your mind, emotions, energies and physicality—as a quantum human being having a spiritual and human experience.

  • To experience humanness, including its pervasive story of duality, as the equivalent of a creative phantasm, imaginative story and quantum dream—quantumly produced and directed to appear real, tangible and serious.

  • To view humanness not only through its human lens of duality, and not just through its spiritual lens of oneness, but also from outside those lenses—through the quantum lens that has now become your style of vision.

  • To embrace every possibility and experience here on earth as a true quantum presence, appearing human while experiencing the quantum nature of this seeming spiritual and human story. To be a homo quantum!

In conclusion …

I thank you for joining me in this ‘undressing’ ceremony.

Our ritual of ‘undressing God’ of our humanly-sourced concepts

can be—and hopefully has just been—truly liberating and freeing.

It opens us to our personal expansive nature and bigger spiritual truth.

It allows us to stop being in conflict with one side of duality’s offerings.

It empowers us to make friends with both sides of duality’s equations.

It frees us from many myths that keep us humanly small.

Most important, it connects us to what we call God or Source

not as the fulfiller of our dreams and responder to our needs,

but as the empty, neutral and imaginative power

that lies so wondrously and source-fully within us.

As I conclude, I’d like to express some consoling words.

You and I have just walked through something like a graduate course

in quantum immersion.

We’ve called ourselves to a giant stretch

beyond our human comfort zone.

Yet, our undressing ritual, challenging as it may have been,

has led us to a remarkable side-effect: that of letting go!

Letting go of potentially addictive, often unconscious, beliefs

that keep us feeling humanly needy, small and/or disempowered.

More significantly, though, undressing God of your concepts

has perhaps led you on a profound rite-of-passage—

a deep-level ritual of personal immersion

into the waiting embrace of your quantum nature.

To me, that’s a journey worth taking.

Thank you for being my travel partner!

Quantum Source ... Quantum World ... Quantum Void ... Quantum You!
