The Quantum Field:*

A quiet ocean!

The quantum field is a quiet ocean.

Little ripples arise, occasionally a wave.

There's certainly still a ‘self’ here,

evidenced by a bit of anxiety or compassion that arises in me,

but which is meaningless to the field

that sends up a little wave

in order to answer a question or touch a person.

What a revelation:

that all our reactions are meaningless to the quantum field!

What a game:

for ego to believe our thoughts and feelings

are important to the field of existence!

And underneath this entire dance is the ocean, the Unmoved Mover—

that which illumines everything, but which itself is never illumined.

Now I see the power of the four agreements

from the Toltec code of conduct.

Especially the one that says,

"Don't take anything personally."

It's the beginning of understanding that

the quantum field doesn't take us personally.

Now I also understand how miffed people get

as they move beyond the spiritual place of ‘divine self’

into the quantum field of ‘no self’—

because the deities and celestial experience disappear.

I'm laughing, because

the only thing that could make it okay to be meaningless

and also lose your deities

is being home in the quantum field itself,

being the quantum field itself.

We are not held by that field,

or any ripples of that field, even divine ripples,

because we are that field.

Being a creation of the quantum field,

and discovering the Christmas gift of what we are,

hidden with such playfulness –

this 'me' is part of the game of all games.

The awe, the fun, of this immovable eternal creation,

having popped up a 'me' to see itself,

experience itself as consciousness!

It doesn't make me important, or anything the ego wants to be.

It's not winning the game;

it's finding that I am the game.

The joy in being the 'me,'

feeling quantum field moving my body, hands and speech,

the joy of the whole quantum field!

When that field is quietly awake in me,

underlying everything that's happening—

it's almost dizzying, like doing things on a high ledge,

seeing vast space open below.

And there's an awareness

that eventually everything happening on this little ledge

falls into the vast space.

And there's awareness that moving this body-mind

is moving the whole field

in the most exquisite soft liquid movement of water

stirring an entire ocean.

The mind cannot process this.

It squeaks for a second, then disappears,

like a bug on a windshield,

and what's left breathes relief.

Nothing we think is important is actually important.

But the field cares nothing about us kicking up all kinds of dust,

though most of what we kick up about

only distracts us from the reality

of what is underlying all creation.

It's quite a game.

brave ones who have gone before

and stay with us long enough to report back and help us.
