Taking on Others' Energy?*
A purely spiritual perspective

Have you ever taken on someone else’s energies?
For example, after talking with a really depressed person,
you walk away feeling strangely depressed?
Most—I’d even dare to say many or perhaps all—of us have.
When you experience this phenomenon, what’s actually happening?
Most of us view it something like this:
Another person’s energies (or emotions or issues) jump ship,
leave their owners behind … enter into your personal space …
and make your own energy field their new home.
All of a sudden, you’re now holding the bag of these painful feelings.
They now belong to you—lucky you!—
they’re now your problem, right?
But is that interpretation accurate? Is it really the whole story?
Both psychologically and energetically, it seems to make sense.
I wonder, though: Could there also be a different interpretation,
one that doesn’t result in our feeling like such victims?
As a bit of a mind twisting experience,
let’s look at this phenomenon from another perspective—
one that’s more spiritual in nature.
From this perhaps-more-wisdom-filled perspective,
what if the issues or feelings that reside in your depths—
the fears, guilts, angers, sadness, isolation and the like—
whether picked up yesterday or hanging out inside you for many years,
aren't really yours?
Yes, you heard me correctly. What if they’re not yours?
My question may seem strange at first. You’re probably thinking:
“What’s he talking about? Of course those feelings are mine!
I’ve had these unresolved issues for years! They bother or limit me every day!
If they weren’t mine, they wouldn’t be there!”
While respecting your asserted belief (well, kinda respecting it),
I repeat my question:
Are you sure about that? Are they really yours?
Work with me here, because there’s a sizeable leap waiting for us.
To properly answer my question,
we need to enter less chartered territory, a ‘higher’ realm.
In contrast to the psychological and energetic perspective
that gave us our initial viewpoint,
let’s travel into purely spiritual territory:
where clearer vision and light-filled wisdom fill our consciousness.
I wonder if a spiritual resource might have a unique view to offer us.
I’d like to offer you my personal view.
As I sit leisurely on my perch that sits above our human forest
and look at our human lives through my spiritual glasses,
here’s what I see:
You and I are dominantly spiritual beings,
filled with endless light, love and power—
the power, for example, to love, bless, embrace and heal anything.
When we, beautiful beings of light, incarnate into the human world,
we do so for a primary and selfless reason:
to bring our spiritual gifts—our love, light and power—here;
to use our human presence and unique ‘person’
as a tangible means and effective conduit:
to bless, heal and love this earthly and human world.
And the more fully and radically we do so,
the more we fulfill our personal purpose in having become human.
Now let’s recall those human issues, feelings and “stuff”
that we have taken into our energetic and mental selves.
What might the ‘spiritual you’ say about those troubled energies within you?
Here’s what your spiritual self tells me about them:
“I came here to walk a mile (a lifetime) in human moccasins
so that I might
(a) embrace, love and bless everything human,
including the confusions and pains of human beings;
(b) be an example of living human life in love and light, and
(c) help open them to their own heart’s love and their soul’s light.”
What does this spiritual viewpoint sound like to you?
How does it feel in comparison with our earlier
psychological and energy-based view?
As I see it, this spiritual perspective offers us a unique opportunity
that the psychological one doesn’t:
the opportunity to realize that all those issues that we’ve believed are ours
actually are not really ours.
No, they’re borrowed. They belong to the human family—
or to those in our human family, culture of origin, or the like.
Indeed, we’re simply caretaking them—carrying them within ourselves for a time
in order to love them, in an up-close and personal way,
to bless them endlessly with our penetrating light
and to use our spiritual power and soulful light to heal their pain.
By now, I’m sure that you’re catching my implication. It’s this:
that you have only believed that these painful feelings, etc., are yours,
when they’re actually not.
In truth, contrary to the psychological interpretation,
you’re not actually a struggling, suffering human being;
sub-consciously, you’re only making believe that you are.
In the bigger reality, you’re a wondrous and generous spiritual being
who cared enough to enter into this 3-dimensional realm
in order to splash your light around all of us,
to love everything and everyone you see to the max,
and to bless and heal every painful issue or feeling you encounter,
whether external to you or internal within you.
At this point, you may be wondering: “What?! You’ve gotta be kidding me!
I’ve built a lot of my life around healing and overcoming my issues and obstacles.
They’ve clearly felt like a real part of me,
and my life purpose has been to use them as stepping stones to my own growth!”
My response, of course, is something like this:
“Of course you have. Understandably so.
And it’s been the perfect psychological and energy-oriented thing to do.
And, you’ve done it because …
… because you’ve been defining yourself primarily as a human being
rather than as a spiritual (let alone as a quantum) being.
But your gigantic and wise spirit—
your light-filled soul, your super-conscious mind, your love-filled heart—
sees the situation quite differently.
Through these light-infused eyes, you’re here primarily as a spiritual being,
having entered our human sphere in order to spew your spiritual gifts
all around you—loving, blessing and empowering the earth and the human family,
both as you experience them outside of you and inside of you.”
What if you took this spiritual view to heart, put on its over-the-forest clothes
and said to yourself: “I’m going to do this.
I’m going to adopt the view that I’m dominantly a spiritual (and quantum) being.
I’m going to interpret every interaction as an opportunity for my spiritual self
to love, bless and empower whomever or whatever I encounter.
I’m going to stop viewing any internal “problem, issue or pain”
as mine.
“In its place, I’m going to view their presence as an opportunity
to give my spiritual gifts to them.
I’m going to love each and every one of them
with every bit of selfless love I can muster.
I’m going to bless each of them with the biggest and fullest light I can imagine.
And I’m going to empower everyone and everything around me
by being the biggest version of the spiritual me possible.”
Could it be that, in doing your version of exactly that,
you will have fulfilled the most important purpose
that inspired you to visit our precious little planet
in the first place—
as you’ve dressed up in your finest human clothes
and role played your best rendition of a human being?
In my view, being spiritual while living here on earth
comes with some downright impressive human ‘privileges.’
One of them is that we get to view the human world
through our over-the-forest spiritual lens,
always seeing the bigger truth of every situation.
Second, we can access our spiritual resources to our heart’s content—
our healing light, unifying love and infinite power, to name a few—
at any given moment—and use them to our heart’s content.
Third, we can take anything and everything ‘human’ way less seriously,
bypassing its narrow beliefs and limited assumptions,
and living in the bigger spiritual truth
of this strange but precious human world.
My personal sense is that many of us who have this spiritual identity
make one understandable but potentially fatal mistake:
We define and identify ourselves primarily as
‘human’ beings working hard to access our spiritual nature
rather than as spiritual beings having a human experience.
Once we make that unconsciously sourced mistake,
we then assume that the many rules
that guide the lives of human beings apply to us as well.
And, as the saying goes, the rest is history—a primarily human history.
In closing, I’d like to introduce you to a more quantum consideration:
Our quantum source is currently in the process of upgrading—
I’d even call it re-creating— our 3-dimensional human consciousness.
To this end, it is calling its spiritually oriented inhabitants (That’s you!)
to make some (excuse the term) ‘quantum leaps’ of consciousness.
One of these leaps, I deeply believe, is for you and me
to boldly, even radically, claim and own our spiritual identity,
including the special ‘privileges’ that are attached to it.
Are you ready to make such a seemingly bold leap?
Are you prepared to fast-forward your pursuit of your spiritual identity
by soulfully professing that already present spiritual reality as yours?
Would you be willing to leap strongly beyond your current ‘path’
and simply declare yourself a fully spiritual being …
perhaps thereby opening yourself to a miraculous quantum gift:
that of a fast-track-based giant shift in your personal identity—
from human to spiritual (and maybe even beyond: to quantum)?
Are you ready?
Quantum Source ... Quantum World ... Quantum Void ... Quantum You!
