Dorothy, Oz and Quantum Power *
A Story about "Waking Up!"

Quantum Source ... Quantum World ... Quantum Void ... Quantum You!
I woke up this morning with a big “ah-ha”
about the well-known fairy tale, The Wonderful Wizard of Oz.
As some of you may recall, a number of years ago,
I wrote a book (Oz Power: How to Click your Heels …)
in which I used Dorothy’s journey through the land of Oz
as a metaphor for your and my journey through earth.
My great ah-ha is about the story’s grand finale:
Dorothy clicking her magical heels, thus exiting Oz
and ‘waking up’ back home in Kansas.
In my earlier book, I called this phenomenon Oz power.
In my current ah-ha, I realized that it’s really
Quantum power.
If you please, let’s accompany Dorothy anew
as she journeys through Oz
with this new emphasis on its magical ending.
In the story, Dorothy is swept away from home,
landing in a mysterious and confusing land called Oz.
Here she discovers a world of puzzling, scary opposites:
good witches and evil witches, scared munchkins—
duality on steroids, if you will,
complete with high drama and apparent danger.
In her drastic search for an exit, she is given a gift:
ruby red slippers—graciously given by Glinda, a good witch,
who suggests that she visit the great Wizard of Oz for help.
So, Dorothy sets off on the yellow brick road to find him.
(Recall that yellow, the color of the solar plexus chakra,
is a symbol of fear—this road of life can feel quite scary ).
On her way, she discovers three important ingredients:
three personal tools that she needs—as we all do—
in order to survive and accomplish her purpose:
(a) the ingredient of light (or consciousness)
(symbolized in the scarecrow: “If I only had a brain!”);
(b) the ingredient of love
(symbolized in the tin man: “If I only had a heart!”);
(c ) the ingredient of power
(symbolized in the lion: “If I only had courage!”).
With these three important qualities under her belt,
she’s now ready to face the wizard and ask for help …
… only to discover that, before he will help her leave Oz,
she must first overcome her fears,
face duality’s opposites head on
and, yes, defeat the Wicked Witch of the West.
Almost miraculously, she does so,
only to discover that the Wizard actually has no power
to magically whisk her back home.
She feels helpless.
Now comes the happy ending. Glinda re-appears,
reminding Dorothy that she has the power within herself
to return home—a power present on her feet:
the power of her ruby red slippers.
Dorothy claims this power, clicks her heels,
proclaims that “There’s no place like home!,”
and—voila!—she wakes up back home in her bed.
In my book, I labeled this: “Oz power”—boldly asserting
that each of us possesses it within ourselves.
Next comes perhaps the most significant scene.
Dorothy opens her eyes, relieved to see her aunt and uncle,
only to hear her aunt assuring her that
“You’ve just been having a dream, Dorothy!
It was just a dream!”
Indeed, her drama-filled and challenging life in the land of Oz,
was just a dream—a convincing and compelling one, mind you,
but just a dream.
And, indeed, she finally found the power
to awaken from that dream.
It was her Quantum power.

Does this sound familiar to your quantum ears?
Let’s now make this metaphor-rich story about you and me.
Recall, if you will, that you and I are, first and foremost,
quantum non-beings—
and we’re giving ourselves a real treat: a remarkable dream.
Yes, we’re dreaming that our quantum nature is a human one.
We’re imagining our quantum non-self as citizens of earth.
In this special dream, our world, like that of Oz,
is one of duality, one filled with opposites, and one that
compels us to deal with their demanding pulls-and-tugs.
Like Dorothy, we feel called to move beyond our fears,
discover and live in the qualities of light, love and power,
then become masters of this strange thing called duality—
at least as much as we can.
Let’s assume that we’re successful in all these endeavors
(Sure we are, all of us—to some degree, at least!).
Yet, just like Dorothy, we find ourselves still in the dream.
Now, the good news! For you and me (as for Dorothy),
something amazing has just occurred.
The Quantum Source has appeared to each one of us—
just as Glinda did to Dorothy.
This Source has graciously given us our very own magical slippers:
its quantum presence and its magical quantum power.
It is now installing this quantum presence and power
deep within us, bringing it alive, making it an intimate part of us.
And at some point (or series of points), our quantum nature
will click its invisible heels, snap its imaginary fingers …
and wake us up from this human dream!
For some of you that magical awakening has already happened.
For all of us, it’s dynamically in the process of happening.
Yes, there’s one power—
a super power, a power bigger-than-all-creation—
that can magically awaken us from this human dream,
the dream that keeps inviting us to stay in its embrace:
the singular, mighty, indescribable power
of our quantum nature.
How fortunate you and I are!
We’ve been called—chosen, if you will—to wake up!
To graduate from the ‘spell’ nature of this human dream.
To sit on a privileged quantum perch above its forest,
where we can now observe and celebrate the dream,
while simultaneously living within its seeming boundaries.
We can now leave behind those human fears and dramas,
even as we walk through all the human dream’s experiences.
We can even enjoy our dream’s apparent ups and downs—
because we know that we’re dreaming them.
Yes, as wonderful and helpful as the three ingredients—
those of soulful light, heartful love and energetic power—are,
we’re now offered that extra ingredient that holds the power
to fully awaken us:
the ingredient of our quantum nature …
our quantum identity …
our quantum nothingness …
our quantum consciousness …
our quantum power …
our quantum non-being!
I congratulate you for being given this calling …
and I thank you for saying a powerful ‘Yes!’ to that calling.
Few others in our shared human dream are so privileged.
I want you to know that I feel equally privileged,
both to be experiencing this calling with you
and to be allowed the privilege of serving you:
as your quantum mentor, guide
and conduit of its blessings.
In closing,
I feel moved to echo and add to the words of Dorothy’s aunt:
“You’re just having a dream!
Yes, it is actually only a dream!
A quantum dream! A magical dream!
A dream that, yes, feels so very real!
But, in truth, a pretend, make-believe dream!
It’s just a dream—but it’s your dream—
one of your own quantum making!
Dream it, then, to the fullest—as its quantum dreamer!
Dream it equally to the fullest—as the dreamed human!
Celebrate the dream’s ups and downs, ins and outs,
reminding yourself that the ‘quantum you’ created it.
Always remember: You are the quantum dreamer …
giving yourself the dream of a lifetime.
Be the dreamer, even while dreaming.
After all, that’s exactly why you chose yourself
to wake up.
Thank you for waking up!
Thank you for being awake!
