Circumcise the Seal Around Your Hearts *

My heart is stretched like a rubber band
striving to embrace an immensity too large for its width.
There is no tension in this stretching
nor is there an object to be encircled,
yet the heart flutters.
How do you explain this new power,
neither energy nor light?
Joy, sorrow, the ugly and the beautiful dissolve
into scintillating sensation—
a song without a sound,
a poem without words.
The ocean ebbs and flows,
the sand comes and goes.
Who, or what, witnesses this movement?
